Director of Academic Programs, Tennessee Higher Education Initiative
Ka-Rhonda Porter joined Tennessee Higher Education Initiative in Prisons in 2019 and currently serves as the Director of Academic Programs. She works closely with our partner prisons and our partner colleges to facilitate the operation and administration of the THEI college programs. THEI currently operates within three Tennessee prisons: Turney Center Industrial Complex, Morgan County Correctional Complex, and Northwest Correctional Complex. THEI partners with local community colleges to provide equitable and rigorous degree granting college courses.
Ka-Rhonda brings a lifelong dedication to the field of education through attending the University of Houston for doctoral level education within the field of Curriculum & Instruction- focused on minority’s higher education experiences. She also earned her Master’s Degree in Education concentrating in Curriculum and Instruction from The Texas Southern University and a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education. Ka-Rhonda brings to THEI 18 years of teaching and research in secondary education in urban areas.
